Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Undergraduate admission for the the College of Engineering is handled centrally at the University's Office of Admissions, Students apply for admission to the College of Engineering, not to a particular major. Engineering students are admitted to the College of Engineering in their freshman year. At the end of their freshman year, each student declares intention to major in a particular engineering program. Undergraduate students admitted to colleges other than CIT and wishing to transfer into a CIT department during their first year should consult with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies of CIT.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Because of limited availability, eligibility for the Electrical and Computer Engineering program is determined at the time of admission to the Engineering College.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) should be taken if the native language is not English and the SAT Reasoning Verbal test results are less than 600. Carnegie Mellon requires TOEFL scores of 250 or better on the CBT TOEFL, 600 or better on the pencil and paper TOEFL, 100 or better on the internet-based TOEFL or an IELTS score of 7 and above.; completion of Financial Statement.
