Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Applicants are evaluated on the basis of a strong academic performance in a solid college preparatory curriculum which includes 4 years of English, 3-4 years of math (calculus recommended), 3-4 years of laboratory science, 3-4 years of history and/or social science and 2-4 years of a foreign language. A high school diploma is required. SAT or ACT plus Writing scores are required of all applicants. The TOEFL or IELTS examination scores are required for non-native English speaking students. Applications for early decision (for September admission)are due by November 1. Applications for regular admission are due by January 1. There is an $80 non-refundable application fee. Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Boston University admits students to the College of Engineering without a declared major. However, students are encouraged to indicate their intended major on the application if they know it. All engineering undergraduates are required to declare a major no later than the end of the sophomore year. Students can pursue two degrees simultaneously, or add a minor or concentration of interest to their degree program.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

International students are eligible to apply to Boston University as undergraduates if they have completed the equivalent of an American secondary school education and have the appropriate diplomas or satisfactory results on leaving examinations. The Office of International Admissions evaluates all foreign-education credentials. In addition, all international applicants are required to submit results of the College Board's Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT I: Reasoning Test) or the ACT plus Writing, and results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Residency Requirements

Students must complete a minimum of 48 credits at Boston University in the upper division (junior/senior) of the undergraduate degree program.

Official college transcripts; faculty recommendation; high school credentials (grades, rank in class, etc.); extra-curricular activities; two essays; TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) scores for international students; recommended GPA at least 3.0.
