Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Admission to WPI is highly selective. Our students are usually ranked within the top ten percent of their high school class, and score between 1210 and 1400 combined (CR+M) on the SAT. WPI likes to see superior scholastic performance in high school math and science courses, but we also seek students with varied interests, as well as scholastic ability - students who enjoy project work but who also enjoy extracurricular activities.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Students apply only to the University. There are no separate Admissions requirements for different departments.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

In addition to the requirements as specified in Admission Information, international applicants must submit the following:

- An official certified record of secondary school work with courses and grades (results) listed
- An explanation of the grading system used and an English translation of any records which are in languages other than English
- If English is not the native language, one of the following must be taken in addition to the exams listed in Admission Information: TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, MELAB, or GCSE
- Financial Documentation: Either the WPI certification of finances document with appropriate signatures and bank verification demonstrating ability to pay the full cost of attendance, OR the International CSS PROFILE indicating expected annual family contribution

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Same as found in Admission Information.

Residency Requirements

A minimum of 72 credit hours (two years of full-time work) must be completed satisfactorily in residence at WPI.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

WPI's Office of Admissions coordinates the formal evaluation of transfer credit. Courses taken at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions which satisfy a WPI departmental review of course content and level and which are comparable to courses offered at WPI will be granted a credit if a grade "B" or better is achieved.
