Undergraduate

Admissions/Transfers

Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Students are admitted to the University based upon competitive application.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

For limited enrolled programs, students who are admitted to the University and complete basic calculus, physics, chemistry, and computer science core courses are admitted to the professional engineering programs based upon performance in the basic pre-engineering courses. For all other programs, students are enrolled upon declaration of the major after admission to BYU.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

University admission consideration is based on academic performance, level of education completed, TOEFL test results, ACT/SAT test scores, ability to finance desired education, and ecclesiastical endorsement. Official documents must be received showing all secondary school marks and final diploma in English. Applicants entering the US on a B visa are ineligible to attend BYUI. Students must have a form I-20 from BYUI, a valid passport, and a valid F-1 visa. International students must report to International Services within one week after arrival on campus.
Admission requirements to the professional programs in engineering are the same for all students, regardless of citizenship.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Entrance requirements for Non-LDS students are the same as the requirements for LDS students. Ecclesiastical endorsements can be obtained from a local ecclesiastical leader of student's choice or a LDS bishop within whose ward they reside.
Admission requirements to the programs in engineering are the same for all students, regardless of religion.

Residency Requirements

At least 30 semester hours of credit taken in residency at BYUI are required for a bachelor's degree.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Applicants must complete BYUI application. Students with more than 24 semester hours of transfer credit at the time of application must also submit official high school transcripts and the results of the ACT. Students must also submit an official college transcript to the BYU records office.

Number of Transfer Students from:

A two-year community junior college where they were full-time students: 129
A four-year college or university where they were full-time students: 174
