Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

An applicant must satisfy the minimum admission requirements for the Graduate College. Prior to beginning a graduate degree program, all applicants must have completed at least a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or a degree from a non-U.S. institution of higher education that is judged equivalent to a U.S. baccalaureate degree by the Registrar.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Initial evaluation of applicants will be undertaken by the respective Department's Graduate Studies Committee, (i.e. Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Materials Science & Engineering) composed of at least three full-time graduate department faculty. The Departmental Graduate Studies Committee will determine the applicant's admission status and assign an advisor. Continuing enrollment in the program requires a minimum 3.0 GPA and satisfactory progress toward the degree.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Boise State University welcomes applications from qualified students around the world. The requirements described below apply to all applicants holding citizenship in a country other than the U.S.

All applicants must satisfy the admission requirements of the Graduate College provided online.

Applicants must complete all Graduate College admission steps before June 1 for Fall semester and and before October 15 for Spring semester.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

No special requirements for non-resident students.

Residency Requirements

Graduate College policy states that a Ph.D. student must spend at least one academic year in full-time, on-campus graduate study at Boise State University.

If the applicant is applying as a graduate degree-seeking student and was a graduate degree-seeking student elsewhere but did not complete the program, applicant must demonstrate that he or she departed that graduate program in good academic standing.

Determination of residency for other programs is determined by information provided on the application to the University Graduate College.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Students transferring from a graduate program must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0. Up to one-third of the total credit requirements for a Boise State University graduate degree may be transferred from an accredited institution per regulations and must satisfy restrictions published in the Graduate Catalog.
