Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Curriculum leading to a baccalaureate degree shall contain a minimum of 120 credit hours. The undergraduate student must:
- Complete, with at least a 2.0 grade point average, all undergraduate coursework attempted at Texas A&M University.
- Complete, with a 2.0 grade point average, all courses included in the major field of study.
- Meet the Residence Requirement.
- Complete the University Core Curriculum.
- Complete the citizenship requirement, which includes at least 6 credit hours in government/political science and at least 6 credit hours in American history.
- Complete the Foreign Language requirement.
- Complete the Writing requirement. The requirement may be met by passing two writing (W) courses or one writing (W) course and one oral communication (C) course.
- Complete the International and Cultural Diversity requirement (6 credit hours).
- Be formally recommended for graduation by the Faculty Senate after consideration of his or her complete record.

Master's Degree Requirements

Master of Science (thesis option) requires a minimum of 32 semester credit hours. Student must pass a final exam/thesis defense. A Master of Science (non-thesis option) requires a minimum 36 hours. The degree of Master of Computer Science is a non-thesis degree requiring a minimum of 30 hours. The degree of Master of Engineering is offered in most departments and is a non-thesis degree requiring a minimum of 30 hours that may include an internship. The Master of Industrial Distribution is a non-thesis degree requiring a minimum of 30 hours. The Master of Biotechnology is also a non-thesis degree that requires 39 hours of coursework, internship and a final exam. For all Master's degrees, students must maintain a cumulative and degree plan GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Students entering a doctoral degree program with B.S. must complete 96 credit hours. Students with M.S. degrees must complete a minimum of 64 hours. A qualifying exam and preliminary exam is required and a GPA of at least 3.0 must be maintained. A dissertation demonstrating original work and a final exam are required. The Doctor of Engineering program is a non-research based degree that has the same within house semester credit hours requirements, and includes a one year working experience in industry, business, or government.
