Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

The Faculty has over 115 professors as well as more than 4300 full-time undergraduate and graduate students working towards their degrees. The Faculty offers undergraduate programs in Biomedical Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Software Engineering. The Computing Technology program is offered concurrently with the Chemical, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering programs. The Department of Chemical Engineering also offers a joint program with the Department of Biochemistry in the field of biotechnology. Most programs are offered in English and French and in regular or co-op mode.

The Faculty of Engineering has a strong commitment to research and training of highly qualified personnel. This dedication to generating new knowledge and advancing technology is shared by over 115 professors and over 1,000 graduate students working towards their doctorate or masters degree. The research activities are well supported by various federal and provincial granting agencies as well as universities own development fund. This has resulted in an investment of over $60 M in research and facilities development over the last five years. The faculty has strong connections with local industry and many of our research programs are in fact joint collaborations, adding not only a dimension of relevance but also benefiting the local economy. The faculty has a technology and research development office which assists with industrial collaboration.
