Student Projects

Student Design Projects Description

Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Capstone Course: In ECET, students have the opportunity to work on industry-sponsored projects that are developed between a company and an ECET faculty member. These team projects are completed over the fall and spring semesters and require enrollment in an additional three-credit hour course each semester. Flexibility in the project scope allows for projects to be interdisciplinary in nature, thereby involving students from multiple departments.

Professional Flight Technology Capstone Course: The capstone experience in Professional Flight Technology consists of the completion of four related courses in which students receive training in the Phenom 100 Very Light Jet as they transition from single-engine piston to advanced turbine aircraft. Next, in an introduction to the commercial flight environment, students further develop their crew resource management skills in the CRJ700 Advanced Aviation Training Device. Finally, students develop an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success in the aviation industry as they solidify their professional goals and prepare to embark upon their respective career paths.

Aeronautical Engineering Technology: Capstone Course: Curricula has been developed to incorporate meaningful, hands-on, multidisciplinary research-oriented projects with global applications. Progress in this arena is driven by the aviation industry’s need for work-ready personnel who have excellent technical skills and knowledge of advanced aircraft processes, in addition to the ability to perform with critical-thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. A key focus in those courses is implementation of DMEDI (Define, Measure, Explore, Develop, and Implement) and DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) Six Sigma methodologies. The classroom is an excellent medium for learning team dynamics, engineering design processes, advanced manufacturing processes and client-to-customer communication processes. These skills will prepare program graduates to fill entry-level positions at aerospace companies as design, project, and liaison engineers. Some projects lead to a series of patent applications, based on research projects, being filed, as well as the submission and print of scholarly publications involving undergraduate students.

BCM capstone course & experience: BCM has a comprehensive course that summarizes the construction industry. Emphasis is placed on the “big picture” and how the stake holders, processes, and tasks come together to complete a complex construction project. Skills attained in previous coursework and internships will be utilized in industry simulations and comprehensive projects. Industry participants will also be utilized in the coursework to create real world challenges. BCM also has an 800 hour construction work experience requirement before graduation.

CGT capstone course: Contemporary Problems In Applied Computer Graphics. Groups will identify, design, qualify, manage, create, and present a final project relative to existing or emerging issues within applied computer graphics. Activities and experiences will explore related topics such as project planning and management, user expectations, interpersonal communications skills, and quality management. The course concludes with faculty, peers, and practicing professionals evaluating oral, written, and media presentations of final projects.

ETTE - EDCI 49800"Supervised (or Student) Teaching. Teaching Technology Education full time in a secondary school classroom under the supervision of the teacher in charge of the class and a University supervisor for a full semester.

ID - IT 43500 - Distribution Management Policy. A course designed to build upon previous distribution-related courses with subjects related to managing a distribution enterprise. Modules in sales management, strategic planning, supply-chain logistics, purchasing, and the legalities of distribution manufacturer relationships will be combined with case studies to provide students with practice in making decisions and establishing policy from the manager's point of view. Field trips may be required.

IT - IT 48300 - Facility Design For Lean Manufacturing. This capstone course integrates all aspects of manufacturing activities and materials handling focusing on lean concepts. Via group work, a systematic approach is used to design a manufacturing facility integrating principles of lean production systems and eliminating waste through continuous improvement. Computer simulation and projects are required.

MET 400: Theory and practice in mechanical design are presented. Modern design methodologies will be studied. The integrative methods discussed in this course reflect the current industry trend to perform product design and development in cross-functional teams. Emphasis is on multiple open-ended projects.

MFET 481: This capstone course emphasizes the integration of manufacturing activities into a complete system. The course brings together elements of prior courses including: production processes, planning systems, system integration, and manufacturing controls. Primary course activities are centered around a semester-long team project.

OLS has an experiential requirement as a degree requirement. It can be fulfilled by a number of ways including an OLS approved internship, OLS 467--the service learning course, an independent study with a faculty member, participating in EPICS, Interns for Indiana through the ENTR Center, etc.

Engineering Technology Information

College Description

Engineering Technology College Description and Special Characteristics

The college’s engineering technology programs are laboratory intensive. A co-op or internship is optional (but highly recommended) in most programs. Most students do multiple co-ops or internships, which often lead to multiple job offers. The college offers M.S. degrees in most of its majors and provides a Ph.D. in which student may concentrate in any department. During the fall 2014 semester, the college embarked upon the development of a trans-disciplinary competency-based degree that will transform the learning environment (learning methods, learning spaces, student assessment approaches, competencies, and other curricula initiatives) for all students by Fall 2017, to include providing in fall 2015 a transformed learning environment for all first-year and a capstone experience for all senior-year undergraduates.
