Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Graduation Requirements. To meet graduation requirements, students enrolled in the COE must satisfactorily complete all courses of the degree program in which they are enrolled and obtain a grade point average of 2.00 or better in all required science, mathematics, and engineering courses (including professional electives). Students are also required to complete a degree audit and an exit interview with the assistant dean at least one semester prior to their anticipated graduation date. At the discretion of the dean, students who do not demonstrate satisfactory progress may be required to leave the COE. http://web.uri.edu/catalog/engineering/

Master's Degree Requirements

Master's degree with thesis: 30-32 credit hours required (some programs require graduate seminars).

Thesis completed in absentia: No.

Grade point average requirement: minimum 3.00/4.00.
Coursework required: 21 to 24 credits.

M.S. students are expected to complete their coursework and research in 4 years.

No foreign language requirement.

Master's with courses only (non-thesis):

Credit hours required: 30 credit hours

Grade point average requirement: minimum 3.00/4.00.

Includes one course requiring a substantial paper involving significant independent study; and a comprehensive examination.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

Credit hours required: 72 credits of graduate study beyond the baccalaureate degree, of which a minimum of 42 credits must be taken at URI.

Master's degree in engineering required: No.

Dissertation completed in absentia: No.

Minimum grade point average: 3.00/4.00.

Coursework required: 42 credit hours.

Expected to complete coursework and research within 7 years.

Requirements for foreign language vary between programs.
