Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Admission to regular freshman engineering curriculum requires completion of at least four units in secondary school mathematics and be directly admissible to Calculus I (have a score of at least 28 on mathematics on the American College Test or have an equivalent score in mathematics on the Scholastic Aptitude Test - or have finished the appropriate equivalence to enter Calculus). Students who do not meet this standard are normally allowed to enroll in pre-calculus and other appropriate courses to remove their deficiencies (usually these courses are not counted toward the graduation requirements in engineering).

Master's Degree Requirements

1. Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent,
2. Have a minimum GPA of 2.7/4.0 on all undergraduate work taken prior to receiving the baccalaureate degree or a 3.0 in the senior year. (Applicants not having this requirement should contact the Graduate Office at 423-425-4666 for provisional status information.)
* Applicant from unaccredited institutions may be admitted with a 3.0/4.0 GPA.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

1) In addition to meeting all admission requirements of the UTC Graduate School (master's degree requirements), applicants for admission to the Computational Engineering Program must have a bachelors or masters degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or foreign equivalent, with major in one of the following disciplines: 1) engineering, 2) computer science, 3) mathematics, or 4) one of the physical sciences.
2) Admission also requires a favorable recommendation from the Computational Science Screening Committee.
