Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

A student working for a bachelor's degree takes four or five courses each term, and normally receives the B.A. or B.S. degree after completing 36 term courses or their equivalent in 8 terms of enrollment. Each department/program has specific course requirements for the B.A. and B.S. degrees. These are listed in the "Yale College Programs of Study 2014-2015" and the School of Engineering & Applied Science "Guide to Undergraduate Studies 2014-2015" as well as on the SEAS web-site. For the Computer Science B.S. & B.A., 6 core courses are required. For the B.S., +6 intermediate & advanced=12. For the B.A., +4 intermediate & advanced=10.

Master's Degree Requirements

8 courses (no more than 2 in Special Investigations); 1 grade of Honors; Average grade of High Pass. For the M.S. in Computer Science, 8 courses at the 500 level with a High Pass average and 1 Honors are required.

Doctoral Degree Requirements

10 courses, 2 Honors, Average grade of High Pass. Area examination, prospectus, written thesis and thesis defense.

Additionally, for Computer Science the requirements are: 12 courses with 2 Honors, rest with High Pass (including 6 advanced in area of specialization); research project thesis accepted; TA for 2 terms; dissertation title & prospectus.
