Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

An ABET accredited BS in engineering is required for Regular Admission. For Provisional Admission, either ABET accredited BS degree in engineering or a minimum combined score of 950 on the verbal and quantative sections of the Graduate Record Examination is required. Also required for Provisional Admission a BS in a field acceptable by the departmental Graduate Admissions Committee and a minimum GPA of 2.5 on all undergraduate work and in the last 96 course hours or a minimum GPA of 2.75 over the last 96 course hours.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

The Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and Electrical Engineering programs admit students each semester. Admission to the MSCE program requires a total GRE score of 1000 (600 quantitative). ME admission requires a minimum of 300 on the verbal and 650 on the quantitative sections of the GRE.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

The Office of International Services at the University of South Alabama provides special services and programs for non-U.S. citizens. The International Application for Admission must be completed and signed by the applicant. Complete and certified academic records of all secondary and post-secondary education attempted and two original letters of recommendation must be submitted. Additionally, non-immigrantw must provide proof that sufficient finances are available to undertake their entire course of study. Non-immigrant applicants, whose native language is not English, must submit a score of 525 (197) (graduate) or above on the Test of English as a Second Language (TOEFL) for admission. All international applicants, regardless of TOEFL score, must sit for the English Proficiency Examination during the International Student Orientation.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Entrance requirements for non-resident students is the same as the entrance requirements for resident students.

Residency Requirements

Residency is defined the same for graduates as undergraduates and is not required for either admissions.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Applicants are granted unconditional admission if they have earned a cumulative average of at least 'C' (2.00) on all work attempted. Transfer student applicants must make certain that official transcripts of all courses for which they have been registered at other colleges or universities are sent directly to the University from the home institution. The Director of Admissions evaluates all credits to determine the number transferable to the University of South Alabama. Such transferred credit will be applied, after evaluation, to the specific program of the student.
