Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Master's degree: Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a scale of 0.0 to 4.0 in major; minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Letters of recommendation, transcripts required. GRE required by Chemical and Biomedical Engineering and for all programs when applying for fellowship, including the Advanced Test in Engineering. Ph.D.: A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a branch of engineering, or a closely related area, appropriate to the applicant’s intended field of study, from an accredited institution whose requirements for the degree are substantially equivalent to those of CCNY is required. The academic record must demonstrate promise of superior performance and the ability to carry out research. Adequate preparation in specific courses may be required by the individual department. In addition to the above, graduates of foreign institutions must present authoritative evidence of sufficient competence in the English language to pursue a regular course of study at the City College. An applicant who has not studied in an English-speaking country and who is not permanent resident (green-card holder) must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

GRE is required for all Master applicants to Biomedical and Chemical Engineering. Scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Tests are required for all programs.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Master's: TOEFL score of 173 minimum (computer based), internet based 71.

Ph.D.: Toefl score of 213 minimum (computer based), internet based minimum score of 80.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

None beyond what was stated earlier. However, great emphasis is given to quantitative GRE scores [preferably higher than 700]

Residency Requirements

Masters: 24 credits of master's-level courses must be taken at City College (21 credits with permission). PhD: at least 30 credits of approved graduate work; in addition, students must be in residence for the equivalent (as a minimum) of four full-time semesters, of which two must be consecutive.
