Entrance Requirements and Recommendations

Requirements

Freshmen applicants will be considered on the basis of overall strength of academic preparation (a minimum of 16 academic units must have been completed), grades in individual subjects, overall high school average, and SAT or ACT scores. Applicants who have taken the General Equivalency Diploma (GED) examination must submit test scores and can be eligible provided they have attained a score of at least 3250 or higher.
Priority is given to applications completed before February 1 (for fall admission) and September 15 (for spring admission).
Selective programs such as Macaulay Honors College, Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, Grove School of Engineering, and Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture have earlier deadlines and/or special application requirements; please contact the Office of Admissions for more information, or follow the links under https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/admissions

Transfer students: Criteria for admission vary according to credits completed and the program to which the student is applying.

Non-resident U.S. citizens: Same as above.

All foreign students: Same as above, except English requirement may be waived but students must obtain a minimum of 500 in TOEFL exam.

Recommendations

High School students: The College recommends four years of English, four years of social studies, four years of mathematics, three years of laboratory science, three or four years of a foreign language, and one year of performing or visual arts as the academic preparation needed for success at City College.
