Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Admission to the College of Engineering undergraduate program is the dual responsibility of the College and the Office of Admissions, which has the final authority for making admission decisions. Ohio State’s Office of Admissions is the primary resource for the application process and handles direct enrollment for undergraduate students into the College of Engineering. Direct enrollment is competitive. Class rank and strong test scores in math and science are taken into consideration.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Admission to an Engineering department varies by program. Acceptance to an Engineering major is based on the cumulative point-hour ratio and performance in selected prerequisite courses.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Admission to The Ohio State University is competitive, using a holistic and comprehensive review process with the following criteria (in no particular order):
• Successful completion of university preparatory courses
• High school performance (class rank or GPA), including participation in accelerated programs like Honors, AP and IB; Ohio State does not have minimum requirements for class rank or GPA
• Standardized test score (ACT or SAT); Ohio State does not have minimum requirements for ACT or SAT scores
• Ability and desire to contribute to and engage with a diverse campus community
• Experiences that demonstrate leadership or engaged involvement (e.g., co-curricular activities, work experiences or military service)
• Status as a first-generation university student
• Demonstration of outstanding talent in a particular area
• Academic competitiveness of the high school, understanding that different high schools provide different levels of opportunity
• High school performance if adversely affected by physical, mental or learning environment factors
• Eligibility for and likelihood of benefiting from organized support services at Ohio State

To be considered for admission, international applicants must submit an application and the following materials by the application deadline:
• High school transcripts
• Official ACT or SAT scores
• Optional: Recommendation from a teacher or counselor
• Official proof of English language skills
• Proof of financial support

Residency Requirements

Residency requirements for the Baccalaureate Degree: Completion of a minimum of thirty semester credit hours through regular course enrollment at this university.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

• Transfer applicants with fewer than 30 semester credits hours will be considered under the criteria for new students in Engineering.
• Transfer applicants with more than 30 semester credit hours and a GPA at previous institution of 3.0 or higher and credit for a calculus course will be directly enrolled as a pre-major in the program of your choice.
• Transfer applicants who are not eligible to directly enroll in Engineering may enroll in the Science and Technology Exploration Program.
• Students transferring from an Ohio State regional campus or other Ohio State academic college must have a 2.0 GPA and have completed selected prerequisite courses.
