Requirements

Complete the online UF application at www.admissions.ufl.edu and submit the $30 nonrefundable application fee. Submit the high school record and all postsecondary institution transcripts; SAT/ACT test scores are required for freshmen and sophomores. Submit documentation of two sequential courses of foreign language. Apply to a specific UF college and major.

Recommendations

Students should take the following foundation courses as high school-level preparation for enrollment in the College of Engineering: One year each of: Elementary Algebra, Intermediate & Advanced Algebra, Plane Geometry, Chemistry, Physics, Calculus. Students should also take half a year of Trigonometry. Once enrolled at the University of Florida, students who are unsure of their major or desire more information about engineering are encouraged to take Introduction to Engineering, a 1 credit hour overview of engineering disciplines and career opportunities. Complete foreign language requirement in high school.

Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

The college has dual degree agreements (3 years at parent university and 2 years at UF) with Armstrong State College, Beirut University, Bethune-Cookman College, Jacksonville University, Oglethorpe University, Stetson University, and Atlanta University Center (Clark-Atlanta, Spellman, Morehouse, Morris-Brown). Students entering college through such programs must meet the same admissions criteria as all the other applicants to the college.

Approximately 40% of UF Engineering students are from community colleges. Special arrangement with Florida community colleges - pre college articulation agreement.

Admissions/Transfers

Undergraduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Complete the online UF application at www.admissions.ufl.edu and submit the $30 nonrefundable application fee. Submit the high school record and all postsecondary institution transcripts; SAT/ACT test scores are required for freshmen and sophomores. Submit documentation of two sequential courses of foreign language. Apply to a specific UF college and major.

Undergraduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Same as college admission.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Same as "College Admissions" above plus TOEFL requirement.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Residency Requirements

To be classified as a resident for tuition purposes a student shall have established legal residence in Florida and shall have maintained legal residence in Florida for at least twelve months immediately prior to his or her qualification.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Lower division- Must have been eligible for admission to UF as a freshman. Must be in good standing and eligible to return to prior institution. Satisfactory record of 3.0 or higher. Satisfactory conduct record.
Upper Division- 60 semester hours of acceptable courses. Have the courses required by college or be allowed by college to complete the courses including the preprofessional courses required.

Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Applicants who meet both a minimum grade average of 3.0 for all upper-division undergraduate work and acceptable scores on the verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections on the GRE general test are referred to the graduate selection committee of the department for approval or disapproval. The prospective student must satisfy the requirements of the department as well as those of the graduate school.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

Graduate selection committees in the departments approve or disapprove applicants. Some departments may have higher requirements.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Same as "College Admissions" above plus TOEFL requirement.

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Same as "College Admissions" above.

Residency Requirements

To be classified as a resident for tuition purposes, a student shall have established legal residency in Florida and shall have maintained legal residence in Florida for at least twelve months immediately prior to his or her qualification.

The following text was offered to each school as a guideline for the calculation of externally-funded research expenditures:

Include all expenditures associated with grants and contracts specifically budgeted for externally sponsored research and associated programs and expenditures associated with all gifts auditably used for research. Include expended funds provided by the following external sources:

  1. Federal Government
  2. State Government
  3. Foreign Governments
  4. Industry
  5. Non-Profit Organizations (e.g. foundations)
  6. Individuals
  7. Local Government

The expenditures reported should be only those funds provided by organizations, agencies, and individuals external to the institution. Cost sharing/matching funds should be included only if provided from sources external to the institution.

Only State government funds that were obtained competitively or as matching funds associated with other externally funded programs should be included. State funds that are part of the normal operating budget should not be included regardless of purpose.

For all joint or contracted projects or sub-projects, only the portion of the center research performed by faculty, staff, and students of the affiliated engineering school should be credited to that school. Expenditures for capital costs of research laboratory building construction should not be included.

Expenditures for research laboratory renovations should not be included unless the renovation funds expended came from grants and contracts expressly intended for the direct support of engineering research.

Any portion of academic year and/or summer salary for any researcher that is not derived from external research grants or contracts should not be counted.

Total #: Report total number of individual grants, not the total dollar amount of the expenditures.

Expenditures: Report actual expenditures (as opposed to authorization amounts) in U.S. dollars.

Time frame for expenditures: Report expenditures for your current fiscal year.

Research centers listed as "WITHIN an engineering department" on the Research Centers page (screen 7) of the College of Engineering Profile, will not have their expenditures added to the school's total research expenditures. Such expenditures can be included in the department total, while still being listed for the appropriate center. This allows users to list the expenditures in two areas without double-counting.
