Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Potential students submit the graduate application online and pays the $65/75 (US/International) application fee. The student must arrange to have official transcripts from all institutions attended sent to the department they are applying to. A GPA of 3.0 is required. The student must also arrange to have 3 letters of recommendation sent to the academic department to which he/she is applying. International students are required to submit official English language proficiency scores, such as TOEFL, meeting minimum standards set by the MSU Graduate School. All engineering departments either require or prefer GRE scores. Student should submit application at least 6 months prior to semester that he/she plans to begin graduate work.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

No additional departmental requirements.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

Outstanding academic record, required minimum scores on official test of English language proficiency (550 or higher for paper-based TOEFL; 80 or higher for internet-based TOEFL; 6.5 or higher on IELTS).

Entrance Requirements for Non-Resident Students

Same admission criteria for in-state and out-of-state residents.

Residency Requirements

M.S. degree students must take at least 6 credits of coursework on the MSU campus; Ph.D. students must complete 1 year of residence on campus at a minimum enrollment of 6 credits per semester.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

Requirements are the same as for new students. Up to 9 semester credits of graduate level coursework may be transferred from another institution, upon approval of the department.
