Admissions Information

Graduate Admission to the College of Engineering

Applicants for graduate programs in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences should have a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field and a GPA of 3.0 (A=4.0) in their undergraduate work. Applicants with degrees in other related disciplines may be considered for admission after they have satisfactorily completed the necessary undergraduate prerequisite courses. University application deadlines are April 1 for the fall semester, August 1 for the spring semester. However, recommended deadlines for full consideration and financial aid are February 15 for fall and August 1 for spring.

Graduate Admission to an Engineering Department

In addition to satisfying the general requirements of the Graduate College, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit GRE scores. The GRE general examination is required for admission to some graduate programs. Admission to some engineering graduate programs may require specific undergraduate majors or additional coursework appropriate to the discipline.

Entrance Requirements for Foreign Students

International students must have a TOEFL score of at least 500 for full admission.

Admissions Requirements for Transfer Students

A maximum of six credit hours may be transferred from other institutions and applied toward a student's master's program. Doctoral students must earn 30 credit hours of graduate course work plus disseration credit at Western Michigan University.
