Engineering College Description and Special Characteristics

The Grove School of Engineering awards BE, ME and PhD degrees in Chemical, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, BE, MS and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering, BE degrees in Computer Engineering, BE and MS degrees in Earth System Science & Environmental Engineering and BS and MS degrees in Computer Science (PhD, through the Graduate Center of CUNY) as well as Master of Information Systems (MIS). A new MS degree in Translational Medicine offered by the BME department started in fall 2015 and a new ME degree in Computer Engineering started in fall 2017. An interdisciplinary MS degree in Sustainability is also awarded. Externally funded research, in which selected undergraduates may participate, amounts to appr. $22 million annually (2016/2017 academic year). The Grove School of Engineering reflects City College as a whole in the diversity of its student body and the cultural and recreational advantages of being part of one of the world's great cities. An endowment gift of 26 million dollars was given to the School of Engineering in 2005 by Intel former President and Chairman Dr. Andrew Grove (Chemical Engineering class of 1960). The funds are used to support undergraduate and graduate students and new faculty.
