Degree Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Requirements

Complete the curriculum of 124-128 units (depending on specific declared program) with a "C" grade average (GPA of 2.0) in the major (core and designated subplan) courses, in all college-level courses taken at Cal Poly Pomona, and in all completed college-level course work. Complete the required general education courses. Earn not fewer than 30 semester units in residence and spend not less than two semesters in residence (one of these immediately preceding graduation). Meet the Graduation Writing requirement.

Master's Degree Requirements

Engineering graduate students may be granted graduate credit only for courses numbered 4000 and above. A grade point average of 3.0 (B) or better must be maintained. Master of Science in Engineering: a minimum of 45 quarter units of coursework, of which at least 24 units must be in 500 and 600 level courses. Each program of study consists of at least 15 units of breadth courses, at least 15 units of technical speciality courses, elective courses, and either a thesis (4-9 units) or a comprehensive exam (1 unit). Master of Science in Electrical Engineering: a minimum of 30 semester units of coursework, of which no more than 9 units may be at the 4000 level. The program of study consists of 9 units of required breadth courses, a minimum of 15 units of electives, and either a Thesis (4-6 units) or a Master's Degree Project consisting of 3 units of 1 unit followed by 2 units. Master of Science in Civil Engineering: a minimum of 30 semester units of coursework, of which at least 18 must be at the 5000 and 6000 level. Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering: a minimum of 30 semester units of coursework, of which all 30 units are of 5000-6000 level courses. Master of Science in Engineering Management: a minimum of 31 semester units of coursework which should include at least 12 units of graduate business administration courses and 12 units of engineering graduate courses. A maximum of 6 semester units at the 4000 level may be accepted for graduate EGR/EMT or GBA courses. The remaining units consist of 2-4 units of electives and either a thesis or an Independent Study with a comprehensive exam.
